Don’t look now but the Peterborough Timbermen are making some noise in their inaugural Arena Lacrosse League season. The Timbermen defeated the St. Catharines Shockwave 14-10 on Saturday afternoon at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. The win is the Timbermen’s third in a row after starting the season 0-6.
Peterborough took a 3-0 lead into the second quarter. They led 6-5 after the second and 12-8 after the third. St. Catharines got within one goal just once – the Timbermen led the entire game.
Caleb Wiles led with three goals and one assist. Cody McMahon had one goal and five assists. Broedie Birkhof returned to the lineup and engaged in two fights, first against Marvin Curry in the second quarter and then against Mike Attwood in the third quarter.
Ryan Masters played well again in goal, picking up his third win.
Josh Becker had a hat-trick for the Shockwave. Brandon Slade had a goal and four assists. Craig Seneca took the loss in goal.
Missing from the Peterborough lineup were Riley Campbell, Josh Wasson, Joe Wasson, Pete Rennie, Ryley Martinell, Brock McGillis and Geoff McNulty.
The Timbermen remain in last place but are only one win away from equaling the Shockwave’s record with a game in hand. They’re also not far behind either the Toronto Monarchs or Paris River Wolves.
The Timbermen’s next game is Saturday, March 11 at 4pm back at the ILA against the Six Nations Snipers. They also play Toronto in Oshawa on March 18 before returning home Sunday, March 19th to host the Snipers at 1pm. Tickets for that game are now on sale at the PMC.
