The Peterborough Timbermen kept it close on Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell 18-14 to the Toronto Monarchs at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre. The Timbermen have one game remaining in the regular season.
“Our offense put the ball in the net 14 times which is great to see, but they didn’t do it responsibly and gave up six goals in transition,” said head coach Joe Sullivan. “Toronto took off down the floor and made us pay for it. We couldn’t stop the flow of transition against us and that hurt us.”
Caleb Wiles led the Timbermen with five goals and three assists. Nolan Clayton and Ryan Masters split time in goal.
They only trailed by one after the first and the half but the Monarchs kept the pressure on and prevented the Timbermen from tying the game in the second half.
Brett Coons fought Tyler Ferreira in the third quarter.
Not dressed for the Timbermen were Broedie Birkhof, Matt Crough, Ryley Martinell, Brock McGillis, Geoff McNulty, Pete Rennie, Nick Saltern and Eric Shewell.
Jordan Critch and Jordan Dance had four goals each for the Monarchs. Craig Wende picked up the win in goal.
The Timbermen conclude the regular season Thursday, March 30 at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa against the host Outlaws at 7:30 p.m.
