The Peterborough Timbermen are on the road tonight in Six Nations at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena to face the last-place Snipers.
Head coach Joe Sullivan said that the Timbermen can’t underestimate the 0-3 Snipers.
“They’ll be a competitive team. They’ve got some big shooters with some great backgrounds that have been around in the NLL so I look for them to be really good.”
The Timbermen and Snipers are both coming off losses, but working in the Timbermen’s favour is a week-long break, whereas the Snipers were defeated 16-14 by the St. Catharines Shockwave on Friday night. The Timbermen have been resting for a week after a loss to the first-place Oshawa Outlaws.
The Timbermen sport a 2-2 record, with their only two losses coming at the hands of the Outlaws. They’ve beaten the Paris River Wolves 15-12 and the Whitby Steelhawks 16-10.
The Snipers are led by Wayne VanEvery’s nine points. Briley Miller has seen all the action in goal. (stats from Friday’s game were not updated at press time).
The Timbermen are in fourth place and led by Mark Vradenburg’s four goals and 12 assists.
“I’m sure they’ll have some good shooters and they’ll move the ball pretty well,” Vradenburg said. “We have to manage their scoring runs and obviously have to put our own together as well. We’re looking forward to that challenge and hopefully we’ll have a bounce-back weekend.”
Against Oshawa last Saturday, the Timbermen were shorthanded and struggled to find their rhythm, missing most of their top forwards.
No matter who is in the lineup, Sullivan said the team has to come prepared to play.
“We’re going to have make sure we get the commitment level that we expect to get from these guys. We’ll compete if we get everybody there, otherwise we’ll be with the also rans.”
Game time is 7 p.m. and a wrap-up will be available online on Sunday.
