The Peterborough Timbermen are heading to the playoffs.
The Timbermen enter the quarterfinals as the second seed and will play the seventh place Whitby Steelhawks on Saturday, April 6that 4 p.m. at Oakville’s Toronto Rock Athletic Centre.
The fourth place Paris RiverWolves play the fifth place Six Nations Snipers at 7 p.m. that night and the third place Oshawa Outlaws play the sixth place Toronto Monarchs at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 7th.
The three winners from quarter final weekend will play in the league’s final four event at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Ohsweken on April 13thand 14th. First place finishers St. Catharines ShockWave have a bye through the quarter finals.
In the Timbermen’s last regular season game this past Saturday, they defeated the Snipers 13-9. They did it with just 13 runners in their lineup which included only four forwards.
The Snipers were coming off a win over the league leading ShockWave, so their confidence was at an all-time high. It only took the Timbermen until the second quarter to show them who was the boss – that being captain Mark Vradenburg, whose 10 points made a statement that the Timbermen are serious about competing for the ALL Cup this season.
Six Nations was strong early, but Peterborough led 5-4 at halftime and outscored the Snipers 4-0 in the third quarter. The Snipers pushed with runs of three and two goals in the fourth, but the Timbermen answered each time.
Vradenburg led with four goals and six assists. Zack Thompson had a hat trick and one assist. Aaron Woods had a pair each of goals and assists and Fred Hartley scored once and contributed five assists.
