The Peterborough Timbermen moved to 4-0 in the Arena Lacrosse League standings after a 13-11 win over the Toronto Monarchs Saturday evening at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville.
Aaron Woods led the way offensively with four goals and three assists. Brine Rice and Joel Matthews each scored three goals.
After Woods broke a first quarter 2-2 tie, the Timbermen never trailed, though the Monarchs tried to make a game of it with a three-goal-run in the fourth quarter.
“Our scoring threats continue to pull us through when we need to respond to our opponent’s rallies,” said Peterborough’s head coach Joe Sullivan. “It’s truly a game of ups and downs and our young team has been spot on. We are playing disciplined lacrosse and creating a culture here that we’ve not experienced before.”
Will Johnston backstopped the team to this third win on the young season.
Will Sheehan led the Monarchs with three goals and three assists. Aiden Walsh took the loss in goal.
Next Saturday, February 26th, the Timbermen return home to Millbrook Arena at 2 p.m. to host the second place Six Nations Snipers (3-1). Tickets, available at the door only, are $10 for adults, $5 for kids under 14 and children under five are free.
