The Peterborough Timbermen are proud to announce that Aaron Woods has been named the Arena Lacrosse League’s MVP for the 2022 season.
Woods finished second overall in league scoring with 61 points and first in goals with 36, while contributing 25 assists. It was his third year in the league and the third year he finished in the Top 10 in scoring.
“Aaron Woods is the epitome of our league and what it stands for,” stated Timbermen head coach Joe Sullivan. “He has developed into an All-Star among his peers, but carries himself with a humble approach. Commitment is critical for the success of our teams and Aaron has never missed. On and off the floor he is a mentor to our young players. If the Timbermen succeed it’s because of the efforts of Aaron Woods who makes everyone around him better.”
This marks the first time a member of the Timbermen has won a major league award.
He was also named to the league’s first All-Star team, while Timbermen captain Brine Rice was named to the All-Rookie team.
Woods was previously named to the 2019 All-Rookie team and the 2020 second All-Star team.
“It feels like a lot of hard work has finally paid off,” stated Woods. “It was a great season for me but I could not have accomplished any of it without the support from my teammates, coaching staff and training staff.”
Woods and Rice are currently playing for the MSL’s Cobourg Kodiaks, along with Timbermen alumni Colton Armstrong, Doug Utting and Ethan Riggs. The Kodiaks will be in Peterborough this Thursday, July 7 to face the Peterborough Lakers at the Memorial Centre. Woods has four goals and four assists while Rice has three goals and four assists.
The Timbermen already have their sights set on returning to Millbrook Arena for a strong 2023 campaign. You can keep up with offseason moves online at www.peterboroughtimbermen.com.
