This past Sunday, the Arena Lacrosse League held an expansion draft for the league’s newest franchise, the Brampton Express. The Express are the league’s eighth team and will play out of Memorial Arena.
Three Timbermen were selected in the expansion draft: defenceman Tyler Grandel, forward Mikael Chullen and transition Zack Thompson. Grandel was then traded to Oshawa in a multi-player deal.
A Peterborough Jr. A Laker graduate, Grandel spent two seasons with the Timbermen, taking the majority of the team’s face offs.
Chullen, from Toronto, is also a member of the Sr. C Lakefield Rage. He was a rookie for the Timbermen last season.
Thompson is one of the longest serving members of the Timbermen as one of the founding members of the original team in 2017. He has been a leader on the floor and in the dressing room.
“We are sorry to see Zack go but he had informed me that he wouldn’t be able to play this season,” stated head coach and general manager Joe Sullivan. With Brampton being closer to Thompson’s hometown of Orangeville, he might be able to get in a game here and there.
Mitchell Geoffroy was also traded to Brampton in exchange for Taite Cattoni. Geoffroy, from St. Catharines, is entering his third year in the ALL.
The Timbermen would like to thank Thompson, Grandel, Chullen and Geoffroy for their contributions to the team and wish them the best of luck in their lacrosse futures.
The Timbermen open their 2022-23 schedule on Friday, December 16 with an 8 p.m. game at Memorial Arena versus the Express. Their home opener at Millbrook Arena is a New Year’s Eve afternoon affair at 1 p.m. versus Whitby.
