The Peterborough Timbermen of the Arena Lacrosse League have signed forward Riley Curtis, the team announced today.
Curtis, from Brampton, is the grandson of Peterborough lacrosse great Bobby Curtis, a member of the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame, Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the Peterborough and District Sports Hall of Fame.
“I am super excited to get the opportunity to work with a young talent like Riley,” stated head coach and general manager Joe Sullivan. “Riley was drafted by the Rochester Knighthawks last season and has been sent to us for conditioning. It is our expectation that Riley will be with us for a short while, but he will have an immediate impact on our team on and off the floor.”
Curtis spent most of his Jr. A career with his hometown Brampton Excelsiors, but was acquired by the Jr. A Peterborough Lakers for his final season. He scored seven goals and seven assists in 10 games. He recently completed a successful NCAA career with the University of Denver. He appeared in eight games for the MSL’s Cobourg Kodiaks over the summer, scoring twice and adding six assists.
He is also an assistant coach with the Trent men’s field lacrosse team alongside recently acquired Mark Farthing.
“We aren’t putting any expectations on any player, just asking them to come and play their game and be part of a great organization. Riley has committed to us and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome to him to the Peterborough Timbermen,” said Sullivan.
Curtis and his new teammates will participate in their final training camp session this Saturday at Millbrook Arena. The 2022-23 season begins with a road game against the Brampton Express on Friday, December 16th. The Timbermen will open their home schedule at Millbrook Arena with an afternoon game at 1 p.m. versus the Whitby Steelhawks on New Year’s Eve.
