The Peterborough Timbermen fell 18-5 to the Brampton Express on Friday evening in their Arena Lacrosse League season opener at Brampton’s Memorial Arena. It was Brampton’s first game after entering the league as an expansion franchise.
Peterborough started well in the first quarter, surrendering only a single goal. Colton McNutt’s first goal tied the game 1-1 just 41 seconds into the second quarter. But the Timbermen ran into special teams trouble and surrendered three shorthanded goals and a power play goal before the first half was out, which they finished by trailing 7-3.
Brampton scored eight unanswered goals in the third quarter.
The Timbermen’s offense is made up of completely new faces this season, but they are young, eager players, complemented by a veteran defensive group.
Colton McNutt led with two goals and two assists, while recently signed Riley Curtis had a goal and four assists. Aaron Bradshaw and Andrew Lagana also scored.
Steven Walsh and Ryan Masters each played half the game in goal.
Former Timberman Mitchell Geoffroy was named the 2nd star of the game with two goals and five assists for Brampton.
The Timbermen are looking forward to their home opener, which is set for Saturday, December 31 at 1 p.m. at Millbrook Arena. Tickets will be available at the door. To view the Timbermen’s full schedule, visit https://www.peterboroughtimbermen.com/schedule/.
