The Peterborough Timbermen maintained their perfect road record (4-0) with a 16-14 win over the Ohsweken Bears on Sunday afternoon at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
It was a close game throughout; the game was tied five times. Peterborough led 7-6 at halftime but saw Ohsweken ride a three-goal run to a 10-8 lead in the third. That’s when the Timbermen kicked it into high gear; scoring five goals in the last 6:45 of the third quarter for a 13-10 lead. Ohsweken pulled within a goal twice in the final quarter but the Timbermen held them off for the win.
Aaron Woods, Skkylar Thomas and Jake Gasperetti led the charge with three goals and one assist each. Riley Curtis had two goals and two assists as he returned from injury. The Timbermen also welcomed back intimidating defender Casey Swamp, who contributed one assist. Ethan Woods and Thomas Kiazyk each played half the game in goal.
Weylon Abrams led Ohsweken with three goals and four assists. Austin Paddy and Chase Martin split time for the loss in goal.
The Timbermen sit in third place halfway through the Arena Lacrosse League season with a 5-2 record.
The Timbermen are back at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena next Sunday for a 2 p.m. game vs the Paris RiverWolves before heading to Children’s Arena in Oshawa on February 10 for a date with rival Whitby.
The Timbermen’s next home game at Millbrook Arena is on Saturday, February 17 when they host the Oshawa Outlaws at 2 p.m.
