Millbrook Arena closed due to mold – SIGN THE PETITION TO SAVE IT

As of now, the Timbermen are without a home arena for the season, and will be playing “home” games at various arenas around the league, including Children’s Arena in Oshawa, Brampton’s Memorial Arena, the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Six Nations and the TRAC in Oakville. Please help save Millbrook Arena so we can return to it next season!

“As residents of the area, and passionate supporters of our local sports teams, we hold the old arena close to our hearts. Not only is it a structure filled with memories of countless games and competitions.  It is the only indoor turf space in all of Peterborough County used by Cavan FC Soccer Club, Peterborough Old Timers Soccer Club , Peterborough Timbermen of the Arena Lacrosse League, youth Baseball & Junior Lacrosse teams along with track and field teams. Private rentals for family and birthday celebrations, coaches and referee training courses amongst other events have also been held at our arena.

Our township council has voted to demolish this asset of our community. We believe this decision does not accurately reflect the opinions of our community as a whole and is not just financially imprudent, but is also a disregard for the culture and the spirit of our local sports community. New constructions can be costly and time-consuming. It is our belief that refurbishing the existing infrastructure would be a more cost-effective and timely approach.

If another green space park remains a desire of the Millbrook community we suggest the council look to develop the CMCC adjacent property or the property fondly known as the ‘Tinney’ parking lot at #3 & #5 Centre Street that was recently purchased by the township for $2 million for a park, right in the centre of the town.  Another option would be to expand the parkland by Med’s Mountain on the other side of the Millpond.

Let our local Millbrook Village businesses continue to benefit from the foot traffic of our athletes and their families who visit Millbrook every week during the season.

Our request is simple: let’s refurbish and continue to use our beloved arena. Let’s invest in maintaining a symbol of our community spirit, provide a home for our youth and adult teams as well as other community groups and make a fiscally responsible decision.

Please help us in making our voices heard by signing this petition. Together, we can secure a proper home for our athletes, continue to keep our youth physically active and healthy and preserve the old arena for future generations.” – Angela Penello
