The Peterborough Timbermen moved their record to 3-1 after hanging on for the win 13-12 over the Oshawa Outlaws on Saturday at Children’s Arena in Oshawa.
Zach Thompson and Jake Gasperetti led Peterborough with a hat trick and two assists each. Taite Cattoni made his season debut and scored twice with three assists.
The game was tied 5-5 after the first period, and Peterborough led 8-6 at halftime. After outscoring Oshawa 3-1 in the third and taking an 11-7 lead, the Timbermen ran into penalty trouble late in the fourth, with both Riley Morgan and Shawn Osborne ejected for separate face masking majors, in addition to a too many men call and a tripping penalty from Gasperetti. Three out of Oshawa’s four goals in the final 2:26 were scored on the power play.
Oshawa took eight consecutive minor penalties between the third and fourth quarters, and 17 overall, although a number were offsetting with a Timbermen also called. Peterborough scored twice on the power play throughout the game, and Gasperetti scored twice on shorthanded breaks.
Goaltender Ethan Robertson was named 1st star of the game and Jake Gasperetti 2nd.
Assistant captain Justin Bragg and Teioshontathe McComber made their season debuts, while Sam Parent played in his first game with the Timbermen.
The Timbermen return to Children’s Arena this Saturday at 5 p.m. to face the Toronto Monarchs.
