Timbermen look to move back up the standings with 6 games left

It’s been a wild stretch for the Peterborough Timbermen, who have a record of 5-3 on their Arena Lacrosse League season. They’ve gone 1-2 in their last three games, with losses to Whitby and Brampton, but a huge win over Ohsweken. Consequently, the Timbermen now find themselves in 3rd place behind Whitby (8-1) and Brampton (6-3). There are 6 games remaining in the regular season beginning with Saturday’s 1 p.m. contest vs. Oshawa. For that game and the next three the Timbermen will be the home team at Children’s Arena.

Captain Cam Milligan and Jack MacAlpine continue to lead the Timbermen offensively. Milligan sits 2nd in league scoring with 56 points and leads with 42 assists. MacAlpine is 7th in scoring with 45 points, 5th in goals with 19 and eighth with 26 assists.  Rookie Zach Thompson is second in the league with 8 power play goals, and Milligan 3rd with 7. Jake Gasperetti is 2nd in shorthanded goals with 4, and Aaron Woods, MacAlpine and Stone Jacobs all made the list with a pair of shorties each.

“We have a really good offence and if we get the ball more we’re going to break out more,” said MacAlpine after the team’s loss to Whitby. “I’ve gotten more minutes (this season) and that’s helped, but it all comes to our skilled group. I’m just open. I find my spots and they’re giving me the ball. So [I can] do my job if everyone else does theirs.”

Getting Woods back was an unexpected boon to the offence, but the defence took a blow learning that Justin Bragg will be out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury sustained off the floor.

In goal, the Timbermen are rotating between Ethan Robertson, who backed up Dillon Ward for the Colorado Mammoth on Friday night for his NLL debut, Jackson Hainer and Keegan Thomas. Thomas has two wins and leads with a GAA of 10.90.
